Pagan Bitchings
Speaking in "olde english" does not make you look cool. It does not make you more of a pagan. It makes you look like an idiot.

So please, keep doing it. That way I can tell if you're an idiot right from the start. It makes my life a lot easier.

And while I'm at it, the fact that I'm not actively pagan does not mean that I don't know what I'm talking about. I grew up pagan and I've been studying pre-Christian religions for a very long time. I'm pretty sure I know more about paganism than you do, so I suggest you shove ye olde bullshite up ye olde arse and open up a book or two before you even think about arguing with me.

Ranted on my journal then remembered this place... [Jan. 23rd, 2007|12:05 am]
Pagan Bitchings

So I was over at Witchvox skimming through the articles. And becoming progressively more pissed off. Why do I do this to myself? Really. I know going over there is only going to piss me off, confuse me, or on the rare occasion amuse me. I guess it's for the off chance of amusement and on occasion I do run across something interesting. This week though seemed to be about Nature. With a capital N. Almost all the articles are about how pagans and nature go together like peanut butter and bananas. I hate reading shit like that. I really really do. Cause I could care less about Nature. Nature is something that happens to other people. I avoid it when ever possible. And whenever I read one of those stupid articles about how pagans know to respect the Earth and other tree hugging things it always makes me feel vaguely guilty. Like somehow I'm a bad person for not recycling all the time and driving three blocks when I could walk. And that makes me angry.

I'm a pagan. I'm an unrepentant pagan. Actually I prefer the term heathen, but we'll stick with pagan for the purpose of this rant. And I could care less about the environment. That makes me a bad human being, not a bad pagan. I feel that there is a crucial difference here. It makes me a bad human being because I'm participating in the death of that which allows us to live, i.e. the planet Earth. I don't recycle all the time, even when I can and probably should. I do most of the time, just not all of the time and this makes me a bad human being because I'm willfully destroying things when I don't need to thus causing another tree to be cut down, or something like that. This does not in fact make me a bad pagan. I have yet to read anything in my religion that dictates I should care whether or not the spotted owls live or die. Which is good, cause I honestly don't. In fact my religion says nothing about Nature and even if it did I would be free to disregard that. Go read for yourselves. So can people please stop telling me that to be a good pagan I need to care about trees and clean air and shit like that? Cause I don't. I can be the best pagan in the world and not care one bit about Nature. Nature and me have nothing to talk about on the religious angle and it pisses me off when people assume that because I'm pagan and not, you know, Christian or something, that that means I'm a tree hugging hippy. Fuckers.

I don't like nature. I don't. It's dirty and icky and gross. It's filled with creepy crawly things that have too many legs and bite. Nature, quite frankly, freaks me out and I'd rather have nothing to do with it. My idea of the great outdoors is to sit on the deck and read a book. This usually lasts about 30 mins and then I run away because of the aforementioned creepy crawlies. I think Monk (from the USA show) had it right in that one episode where he said something along the lines of, "Ah, I got nature on me. Get it off!" That is how I feel about it. If you think your religion has something to do with being all pro-Nature, specify your religion. Say which religion you're referring to, cause mine ain't got nothing to do with it and I like it that way.

In conclusion: Stop putting your Nature in my Chao.

I swear if I hear the phrase "for the greater good" or "for the highest good" one more time I am going to throw something.

here's what triggered my annoyance ('twas posted in interfaith_talk) :

FOX Fan wants to know YOUR opinion on the hottest issues.:

Honoring a Wiccan Warrior
Nevada National Guard Sgt. Patrick Stewart was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan in September 2005. Now, his widow wants to honor his sacrifice with a plaque on a military memorial wall. But the Department of Veterans' Affairs does not recognize the Wiccan religion, which Stewart practiced, and will not allow the symbol of his religion to be included on the plaque. Is this religious discrimination? Watch the video and tell us whether you give the DVA's decision an Up or Down vote.

In a 30 second news clip my blood pressure rocketed.  Apparently I've been doing this wiccan thing ALL WRONG.  We're apparently supposed to worry that the pentacle is seen as a "symbol of Satanism and Witchcraft"  Wow, and now here I thought that Wiccans practiced witchcraft!  Apparently though it's offensive to imply that!

No not all witches are wiccans and I get how they get irritated when they're jammed in the same group as us, but clearly wiccans ARE witches.  It's a base of our religion and I'm sick to death of these fluffly motherfuckers degrading my beliefs to try and make wicca socially acceptable to grandma.

"Oooh, the scary christians might judge us and we should gain their respect!"  'Cause god knows that all the other religions out there are perfectly willing to sacrifice parts of thier beliefs just because they're not popular or don't make sense to everyone.  That's why Jewish people eat pork and the Catholic church just loves to marry gay couples.  Oh wait, that's not happening.  And who ever gained anyones respect by acting unsure of themselves and compromising their morals?

As for the Satanist thing, well I don't give one shite if they use pentacles, more power to 'em, it's a damn pretty symbol.

I need to bitch about something...

I heard something rather interesting from my mother today. She heard on the news this morning that a preacher in one of the Carolinas has decided to get all of "his people" together and boycot any businesses that do not wish you a Merry Christmas. If you say Happy Holidays, or Seasons Greetings, too damn bad. It's Merry Christmas or nothing. Asshole! These days its generalized enough so that everyone can celebrate the season in their own way... following their own beliefs. If people are saying Merry Christmas only, thats recognizing one organized religion and one organized religion only...... and trust me, there is more than one organized religion. What's next? Being shot right there on the street if you don't say the actual words "God Bless you" when someone sneezes? I don't think this man's boycot will work....Thanks for playing though..

Editors [Jun. 4th, 2005|10:56 pm]

I should like to have if not a bitch, then a minor moan about editors of Pagan related publications who...

1. Do not answer email, even when they solicit submissions by email

2. Having answered email, then disappear.

3. Having answered email and joined in discussion, accept a piece, and promise a publication date. And then disappear, leaving one to wonder if the piece will ever see the light of day, needs to be resubmitted elsewhere, CAN be resubmitted elsewhere, etc...

See head hit wall...
